Zenaida Smith is a Medical Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) who has experience

working in outpatient facilities, adult Home Health, and early intervention as well as with various school districts.

Aphasia

Treatment involves addressing expressive and comprehension deficits an individual exhibits

TBI

Treatment involves addressing executive functioning, social skills, reasoning, self-monitoring, and self-awareness.

Cognitive Impairment

Treatment involves addressing executive functioning, decision-making, planning, and organizing.

Voice

Treatment involves manipulating voice-producing mechanisms such as respiration and resonance to modify vocal behaviors, as well as providing education on vocal hygiene

According to the CDC

Those who experience aphasia may have difficulty with spoken language expression, language comprehension, reading, and writing. The most common type of aphasia is  called Broca’s aphasia, individuals typically demonstrate word retrieval difficulties, incomplete sentences, poor or absent grammar,  and/or telegraphic speech.

Those who experience a TBI may demonstrate impaired cognition (i.e., attention, memory), behavioral, and emotional functioning. Additionally, individuals may demonstrate reduced organizational skills, foresight, and information processing.

Those who experience a cognitive impairment may demonstrate difficulty with attention, memory, making judgments, or following a conversation.

Those who perceive a voice disorder may demonstrate rough, breathy, strained, or strangled vocal quality. Additionally, vocal quality may be perceived as abnormal pitch, resonance, and/or loudness.
